Holiday villas in Hvar
Holiday villas in Hvar
Find your
secluded holiday villa on Hvar and explore the sunniest Dalmatian island, home
of five UNESCO heritages
One of the most popular Dalmatian islands is definitely
the sunny island of Hvar, with over 2700 hours of sun during the year. Frequent
ferry and catamaran connections between Hvar, nearby islands and the mainland, make
it easy to reach your secluded holiday villa and start a perfectly planned
holiday. Between UNESCO sites, local wine & cuisine, all night clubbing,
boat trips and exploring vast lavander fields, make sure you spend enough down
time next to a swimming pool in your holiday villa in Hvar.
HOLIDAY VILLAS ON HVAR - EXPLORE UNESCO HERITAGE
Hvar island is a unique destination for many reasons:
home to the oldest public theatre in Europe opened in 1612; the largest
Dalmatian square (in front of St. Stephen cathedral in Hvar town), lovely stone
houses with terraces and roof windows called „luminari“, lavender cultivation,
beautifully decorated vacation villas... But what really sets it apart are 5
different UNESCO heritages (tangible and untangible). Along with Mediterranean
cuisine, and a capella „klapa“
singing, which are shared with other Dalmatian destinations, three of them are
specific only to Hvar: Stari Grad plain,
„Za križen“ Procession (Following
the Cross) and lace made from agave.
During your stay in a holiday villa in Hvar, pay a visit to the Benedictine
monastery in Hvar town. The nuns produce incredible lace from agave which you
can take home as a souvenir. "Za Križen" takes place every year on
the eve of Good Friday. Lit by candlelight and accompanied by archaic songs and
prayers, the worshippers follow the cross-bearer until dawn, walking from one
village to the next (Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj and Vrboska).
HOLIDAY VILLAS ON HVAR - A TRADITION GOING BACK IN
HISTORY
One of the first things you will learn about Hvar is that
it was colonized by the Ancient Greeks. They established the oldest island settlement
- Pharos (Stari Grad) in 384 BC and
organized the UNESCO protected Stari Grad plain
using geometrical parcels with dry stone walls to cultivate
olives and vine. Although holiday villas
on Hvar today represent the ultimate holiday accomodation, the idea of a
secluded residence is centuries old. A very famous renaissance castle in Stari
Grad, called „Tvrdalj“ is a
beautiful summer residence with a fishpond, dovecote and herb gardens. It belonged
to Croatian poet Petar Hektorović and is one of the sights worth visiting.
HOLIDAY VILLAS ON HVAR - LEARN LOCAL RECIPES AND EXPLORE
SECLUDED VILLAGES
Immerse yourself in the island state of mind by using all
of your senses. Hike around the lavender fields following the paths used since
the Middle Ages, enjoy breathtaking landscapes around Velo and Malo Grablje and tour the small family taverns („konoba“)
in villages like Zavala, Pitve and Sv. Nedjelja. Try „panada“ a simple dish from old bread, olive oil and tomato sauce, fish soup „gregada“ and sweets made from world famous Hvar lavender. Pair these light and healthy Mediterranean dishes,
with fresh white wine „bogdanuša“,
which was consumed on Viennese court. For a complete local experience, visit an
open market, buy fresh ingredients, and try to prepare one of Hvar dishes in a
fully equipped kitchen in your holiday villa with swimming pool.
