Holiday villas in Split

With its ancient history, lively seafront promenade, easy-going locals, the second largest city in Croatia with a Mediterranean vibe isa must see during your stay in a holiday villa.

The history of Split began over1700 years ago, when the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to retire and build himself a grand retirement palace on the shores of Adriatic. After the sack of nearby Roman megapolis Salona by the Avars and Slavs in the 7th century, the citizens escaped to Diocletian's palace, which then developed into the city of Split. (It is worth taking a short ride from your holiday villa to the impresive remains of Salona, once the biggest city in this part ofthe Roman Empire.)

Split is situated on a peninsula, surrounded by Mosor and Kozjak mountains and Marjan hill from the mainland and by islands of Brač, Hvar, Šolta and Čiovofrom the sea. During your stay in a beautifully furnished holiday villa in Split with swimming pool, explore the maze of streets in this ancient town, where every corner looks like a Hollywood set (you might recognize some, if you are a„Game of Thrones“ fan). Stop by the Cathedral of St. Domnius which was originally Diocletian's mausoleum, built in 305 AD and look for granite sphinxes (from 1500 BC) brought from Luxor to Peristil - central court in the Palace.
